On Thursday, September 29th, the Illinois American Society of Interior Designers (ASID-IL) held their 8th annual Celebration of Design at the Union League Club. All ASID and IIDA Illinois Chapter members as well as registered interior designers in the state of Illinois were eligible to participate. Twenty-eight prestigious awards were given out that evening in seventeen different categories. i4design magazine is proud to share with you a select few of these winners in the following pages......

Located on a sandy bluff overlooking Lake Michigan’s southeastern shore, two 7,000 square foot homes expand an existing historic family compound that dates to the early twentieth century. The Chicago clients desired sophisticated yet sustainable designs that would incorporate the amenities associated with their urban lifestyles into these more relaxed country retreats.

The two houses are each designed with a two-story central circulation “spine” that is flanked by living spaces. While acting as a transparent reveal between the forms, the spine contains the stairway thereby interconnecting the levels and linking the ground floor to family rooms below ground. Entry for each home is centered on the glazed spine, which sets up axial views through the double height spaces onto rear patios and the lake beyond while flooding the stairwells with natural light.
Architecturally, this compound is a series of stacked cubistic forms that are differentiated maternally between the first story (white composite aluminum panels) and the second (a rain screen of Port Orford cedar).

Recycled leather flooring is used throughout the home for a sleek look. Using natural elements, combined with exquisite interior architecture and clean lines, the designers created a modern urban oasis.
Varying sizes and heights of cabinetry and puck LED lighting suggest and define spaces and provide function. The spaces can be used for a single function while also contributing to the whole, making the home flexible for both intimate and large gatherings.

This Master Bedroom, a showcase room in the Lake Forest Showhouse is a study in peace and quiet. Designed for a couple with a demanding schedule and complicated lives, it is intended as a retreat.

The walls are finished in a paper-backed silk with a wash of pale silver, cream and white. These colors continue around the room with the ivory carpet, pale textiles, parchment, nickel, antiqued mirrors and woven leather.
The space is rigorously symmetrical and well proportioned. The furniture is carefully edited, combining antiques with contemporary design.

As recent transplants from Los Angeles, this couple wanted their 4,000 SF Tribeca loft to exude an urbane, New York sophistication; yet recreate the tranquility, openness, and informality of their former California modern home.

An enormous, millwork-clad pocket door at the kitchen slides closed to hide the kitchen from view during catered events yet opens at other times to informally connect it to the living area.
Positioned at the southeast corner, the master suite includes a second study and bath that doubles as a guest suite, master bedroom, master bath, and storage that can be closed off as needed with pocket doors.
